A set of double-ended sizers, one per size of a particular aortic valve or valved conduit. One end is a cylinder (barrel) that measures the annulus; the other is a replica of the valve's sewing ring (and on Edwards Magna Ease, the stent posts). Edwards sizers are translucent polysulfone so the fit can be seen.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
After the leaflets are excised and calcium is removed, the surgeon sizes the annulus. The largest cylindrical end that fits comfortably (Edwards) or passes readily without resistance (Abbott) gives the size; the replica end of the same sizer then checks that the sewing ring sits on the annulus without blocking the coronary ostia or hitting the sinotubular junction. The scrub then gets that size of prosthesis or conduit from the circulator.

On-X: cylindrical sizers 19-25 mm, conical 27/29 and 31/33 mm, aortic replica sizers, bendable stems.
