Official 1 photo
Setups
9

A hollow stainless-steel sheath that the arthroscope locks into. Its hub has stopcock ports for fluid inflow or outflow, and the tip has side holes. It goes in over a sharp or blunt obturator (trocar).

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Creates the portal through which the arthroscope enters and is exchanged. Irrigation fluid can run in through its side port to distend the joint, and it protects the skin portal when instruments pass.

Sizes & variants

The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.

Sized to the scope and the joint; about 4 mm sheaths for small scopes and 6.0 to 6.2 mm sheaths with a standard knee scope for good flow. Separate inflow and outflow cannulas and disposable plastic cannulas also exist.
