A mallet with a solid stainless-steel head that has two flat, round striking faces. The head sits on a light aluminum handle with a ridged grip.

Strikes osteotomes, chisels, gouges and tamps, and drives in or knocks out implants. Used in bone work such as joint replacement, fracture fixation and spine surgery, including bone graft harvest.

Bergman pattern (Teleflex Pilling): 15 oz (425 g) with a 30 mm head, about 8 7/8 in (22.5 cm) long, or 1 lb 1 oz (482 g) with a 45 mm head, about 9 1/2 in (24 cm) long. Millennium lists the same two weights at 9.5 in. A Hibbs mallet (Codman) is a different pattern with a solid brass head, 38 mm across, 8 in (203 mm) long, 12 oz (340 g).
