Bone Cement Injector
Also called Cement gun
- Type
- Specialty
A reusable hand-held gun with a pistol grip, a trigger and a long feed rod that runs through the barrel. A bone cement mixing cartridge attaches to the front. Each squeeze of the trigger pushes the feed rod forward and forces the cement out of the cartridge under high pressure. A release at the back frees the feed rod so the cartridge can be taken off.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Injects polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement in total joint and hemiarthroplasty work. For total elbow arthroplasty a delivery system with flexible tubing, cut to length, is used so the cement goes down even the smallest ulnar canal, then the humeral canal.
Sizes & variants
The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.
Used with a bone cement system (vacuum mixing bowl and injection cartridge). For the elbow, the flexible injection tubing is cut to the length of the humeral or ulnar component.
