Hollow drill bit with a channel down its center so it slides over a guide wire or K-wire. It fits a small power drill, often with a quick coupling.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Cannulated screw fixation, e.g. the Lapidus first tarsometatarsal fusion: a guide pin is placed across the joint, checked on fluoroscopy and measured, then the cannulated drill bit is run over the pin to make the screw path, and the cannulated screw goes in over the same pin. Also used over K-wires for malleolar lag screws and wrist implants.
