Countersink
Cone-shaped cutter that widens the top of a screw hole. It fits a handle or a quick-coupling drill and is made in sizes matched to screw sets.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
In hardware removal of a deep broken screw, the countersink is turned clockwise first to enlarge the screw hole and give access to the shaft; then a hollow reamer is drilled counterclockwise around the shaft and an extraction bolt removes it. It can also trough a little bone around a bent screw so it can back out. In fixation it shapes the hole so a screw head sits flush.
