Double-J Ureteral Stent
JJ stent · Double-J stent · Double pigtail stent · Ureteral stent · Pigtail stent · Indwelling ureteral stent
A soft, thin, hollow plastic tube with small drainage holes and a curl (J or pigtail) at each end. It is straightened over a guidewire to go in, and the ends curl up when the wire is pulled out. Some have a string (tether) on the bladder end.

One curl sits in the renal pelvis and one in the bladder so it cannot slip out. A stent pusher advances it along the wire.
Lengths and variants
3 Fr (children) up to 14 Fr; Alexander's lists 3 to 8.5 Fr for ureteropyeloscopy. Many lengths. Single-J, double-J and pigtail shapes. Made of polyurethane, copolymers, polyethylene, silicone or metal, often coated to slide in easily and resist crusting.
