Flexible endoscope about 36 in long, fiber-optic or video, with a working channel for instruments such as biopsy forceps or a wire snare. It is used with a light source, air (insufflation) source, suction and monitor.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Viewing the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, with aspiration and biopsy if needed. In the OR it is used for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG): the scope insufflates the stomach and transilluminates the abdominal wall to pick the tube site, and a snare passed through it grabs the guide suture. It may also be requested during gastric surgery such as gastrojejunostomy.
