What it’s for
Removes clots from arteries (embolectomy) and veins (thrombectomy). The deflated catheter is passed beyond the clot, the balloon is inflated, and the catheter is slowly pulled back to drag the clot out through the arteriotomy or venotomy. In iliofemoral venous thrombectomy several passes are made under fluoroscopyfloo-ROS-kuh-peeAn x-ray method that shows moving pictures of the inside of the body in real time.fluor/o glowing (from the fluorescent screen)-scopy looking, viewingFull entry , and a second Fogarty can be placed above the clot to block the inferior vena cavain-FEER-ee-er VEE-nuh KAY-vuhThe large vein that carries blood from the lower body back to the right atrium of the heart.inferior lowervena veincava hollowFull entry .
