Langenbeck Periosteal Elevator
Also called Langenbeck elevator
A straight periosteal elevator with a wide, flat handle and a short single-ended shank ending in a flat, fan-shaped blade. Comes with a narrow (about 6-7 mm) or wide (about 17 mm) blade; about 7 1/4 to 8 1/4 in long.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Strips muscle and periosteum from bone. In craniotomy it reflects the scalp flap off the skull and scrapes periosteum off before the bone flap is made. The basic orthopedic tray usually carries one narrow and one wide.

Wide (17 mm) or narrow (7 mm) tip. Jarit 250-490 8 1/4 in (210 mm), 6.5 mm blade; 250-492 7 3/4 in (198 mm), 17.5 mm blade. Tray versions: narrow 1/4 in x 8 in; wide 11/16 in x 7 1/2 in.
