A soft drainage catheter that is left in the kidney through the PCNL tract and comes out through the skin of the back. Common types are the Malecot (winged tip), the Pezzer (mushroom tip) and the loop catheter. It comes with a stylet to straighten the tip for placement and connects to a drainage bag.

What it’s for
Placed at the end of PCNL over the Amplatz guidewire; the wire and sheathSHEETHA covering that wraps around a structure; in procedures, a short hollow tube left in a blood vessel to pass catheters through.Full entry are then removed and the tube is stitched to the skin. It drains the kidney and keeps a path in for a second-look procedure. Afterward it can be capped, or opened to drainage if the patient gets flank pain.
