Nerve Stimulator Probe

A sterile, single-use pen-like handle with a thin insulated metal probe at the tip and a lead wire that plugs into the nerve monitor. Tips may be a flush ball, a fine point or a small hook.

    Used with a facial nerveFAY-shul NERVThe seventh cranial nerve, which moves the muscles of the face and carries taste from the front of the tongue.Full entry (nerve integrity) monitor in ear, mastoid and parotid surgery. The surgeon touches tissue with the probe to send a small current; if the facial nerve is there, the face muscles twitch and the monitor sounds an alarm. This finds the nerve when disease or anatomy hides it, so it can be protected.
