A disposable, retractor-mounted stabilizer: two malleable suction tissue stabilizers (pods) on an articulating arm with a turret, a tightening knob and a tension indicator, a mounting clamp for the sternal retractor, and a stopcock for suction on/off. It connects through a canister tubing set to a regulated vacuum.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Off-pump CABG: holds a small area of the beating heart still for the coronary anastomosis. The pods are shaped to the heart, suction is turned on and the pods are placed on either side of the anastomosis site; the knob is turned clockwise to lock the arm, and the pods spread slightly as it tightens. To remove: support the heart, turn suction off at the stopcock, loosen the knob and lift the pods.
