A powered sternal saw with a straight, in-line handpiece and a round, toothed blade at the tip. The blade swings back and forth through a small arc (about 6 degrees) instead of moving up and down like the standard sternal saw.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Repeat sternotomy, and some first-time sternotomies through small skin incisions. Old wires are cut in front but left in place to shield the heart; the anterior table is divided, ventilation is held, and the posterior table is divided with the sternum lifted.
