Penfield Dissector
Also called Penfield Dissectors
Lightweight neurosurgical dissector. Most are double-ended, pairing a blunt elevator with a second blunt end or with a wax packer (tamp); the No. 4 is single-ended with a round handle and a slightly curved blade.

Dissects and retracts nerves, vessels and tissue, and strips muscle and periosteum from bone, in craniotomy, spine surgery and carotid endarterectomy.

Numbered 1 to 5; lengths about 7-1/4 to 11-1/2 in. No. 1 has a broad curved end and a sharp round spoon; Nos. 2 and 3 have a dissector and a wax packer; No. 4 is single-ended; No. 5 has two dissector ends.
