Polypectomy Snare
Also called Snare, Snare (loop)
Flexible endoscopic accessory: a pre-formed oval or hexagonal wire loop inside a plastic tube (sheath). The loop may be rotatable or fixed.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Removing polyps through a flexible endoscope (sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy): the loop is opened, worked over the polyp, closed around its base like a noose, and electrosurgical current burns the polyp free. A polyp retriever then brings it out.
