Sigmoidoscope Insufflation Bulb
Also called Insufflation bulb, Bellows
A hand-squeezed bulb (bellows) with tubing that attaches to the sigmoidoscope's eyepiece to pump room air into the bowel.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Pumps small amounts of room air into the rectum and sigmoid to open the collapsed bowel ahead of the scope so the surgeon can see and advance it. If the patient has discomfort, the air is let out by removing the eyepiece or disconnecting the pump tubing (WHO).
