A pistol-grip Kerrison-type rongeur with a large handle. Squeezing it slides the upper shaft forward so its cutting edge bites down onto a thin footplate at the tip.

Removes bone of the lamina, ligament or disc a small bite at a time during laminectomy, laminotomy and spinal decompression.
