Starfish Evo Heart Positioner
Also called Starfish heart positioner, Apical suction device
A disposable, retractor-mounted heart positioner: a silicone suction head on an articulating arm with turret, knob and tension indicator, a mounting clamp, and stopcock-controlled tubing to a canister and regulated vacuum (-400 mm Hg).
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Off-pump CABG: lifts and turns the heart to expose lateral and posterior target vessels. With the arm set, the head is placed on the apex (or the left ventricle just next to it) before suction is turned on; once full vacuum (-400 mm Hg) is reached, the heart is positioned by holding the headlink with one hand and supporting the heart with the other. To release: support the heart and turn the stopcock off.
