Washes the operative site and suctions fluid, blood and debris during laparoscopic and other endoscopic procedures. Pressurized irrigation through it can also push tissue planes apart (hydrodissection).
Sizes & variants
The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.
Probes are commonly 5 mm wide and about 28 to 45 cm long; 10 mm cannulas are made for clots and thick fluid. Fully disposable, fully reusable, and mixed systems (disposable handpiece and tubing with a reusable probe) are made. Irrigation can be gravity, pump or battery driven, and some disposable models also carry monopolar cautery.
