A long, smooth, solid metal rod with blunt, rounded ends. Some have depth marks along the shaft.

Used in arthroscopy to change portals. It goes through the scope sheath or cannula, the sheath is pulled out over it, and a new cannula or the scope is slid back in over the rod along the same path.

Diameters 1.1, 2.4, 2.9, 3.2 and 3.7 mm (Sontec 1271-117 series). Small-joint sets pair them with matching cannulas and a cannulated obturator (Sontec SC95-0425).
