Thoracoscope

Also called Video thoracoscope

Official 1 photo

A rigid video telescope for the chest, 5 or 10 mm, with a 0- or 30-degree view. It is run with a camera and light source like other endoscopes.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Gives the view inside the chest in VATS. In endoscopic minimally invasive mitral valve surgery a 0- or 30-degree thoracoscope goes through a 5-mm trocar one rib space above and lateral to the working port, then is advanced into the left atrium to view the valve; a table-mounted scope holder keeps it steady.

Sizes & variants

The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.

5 or 10 mm, 0 or 30 degrees for adult VATS.
