Throat Pack

A gauze pack with a radiopaque thread or strip, placed in the back of the throat. It may have a tail that can be secured to the breathing tube.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Placed in the back of the throat in mouth and palate surgery, such as cleft palate repair, to absorb blood and keep it from draining down the throat. It is removed at the end, before the mouth gag comes out and the patient is extubated.
