Trochanteric Nail (Gamma Nail)

An intramedullary fixation procedure used to stabilize intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures of the femur. A metal rod is inserted into the medullary canal and secured with a lag screw through the femoral neck and head to facilitate anatomical alignment and healing.

About the procedure

The case

Trochanteric nail (Gamma nail) surgery is a procedure used to fix a fractured femur bone in the hip area. The Gamma nail is a metal rod that is inserted into the femur bone to stabilize and hold the broken bone in place while it heals. The procedure involves making a small incision and inserting the Gamma nail through the hip joint and into the femur bone. The nail is then secured with screws or locking bolts to keep it in place.
