- Setup

Single-use stapling instrument that lays a strand of suture all the way around the cut end of a hollow organ; small stainless steel staples hold the suture in place.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Places the purse-string around the open bowel end so the separated anvil of the circular (end-to-end) stapler can be tied in. In laparoscopic colectomy and low anterior resection it is the alternative to a hand-sewn purse-string. Also used in esophageal, gastric and thoracic surgery.
Sizes & variants
The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.
A reusable purse-string clamp is a different instrument used for the same job, e.g. Aesculap EA323R purse string clamp, 50 mm jaw.
