A 5 mm laparoscopic biopsy instrument with a long insulated shaft and a punch tip: one jaw closes against the other to bite out a small piece of tissue.

Primary uses

Takes small tissue samples (biopsies) through a trocar during laparoscopy. Many are monopolar, insulated instruments that can also carry electrosurgical current.

Sizes & variants

The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.

5 mm diameter, about 32 to 35 cm or 45 cm long. Patterns include a punch with a serrated lower jaw, a punch with one tooth in the upper jaw, and a hook (Frangenheim-type) biopsy punch.
