Burr for a high-speed drill whose head is coated with a coarse diamond grain instead of cutting flutes. A 5 mm size is used for laryngeal framework surgery.

Classic medialization laryngoplasty: a 5 mm coarse diamond burr cuts the window (about 10 x 6 mm) in the thyroid cartilage before the implant is placed. In ear and skull-base work diamond burrs smooth bone and remove the last thin layer over delicate structures.
