Drill Bit, cannulated, Ø 12 mm

Also called Cannulated entry reamer

Official 1 photo

A 12 mm cannulated drill bit that runs over the guide wire through the short protection sleeve to open the tibia. The set has a flexible long version and cannulated short and long versions.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Opens the medullary canal at the nail entry point. After the guide wire is in place, the wire guide comes out of the protection sleeve and the drill bit goes over the wire, through the sleeve, to bone, and is drilled about 8-10 cm deep. Then the drill and wire come out. For 12 and 13 mm nails the opening is over-reamed by at least 1 mm with a medullary reamer.
