What this instrument is on the table to do.
Standby rescue device in transvenous lead extraction. At the start, a femoral sheath with a stiff wire is advanced into a jugular, brachiocephalic or subclavian vein so the balloon can be deployed quickly into the superior vena cava if it tears. In one large series it was used once (1 of 463 patients) to control an SVC dissection before conversion to open-heart surgery.
