A disc rongeur with a pistol-spring handle and a 7-inch shaft ending in a sharp cup biter with blunt tips. The cup comes straight, curved up or curved down.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Removes disc material and tough tissue from small spaces in spine surgery, such as discectomy and interbody fusion. A laminectomy set carries straight, up-bite and down-bite versions so the surgeon can reach above and below the line of the shaft.
Sizes & variants
The lengths, angles and patterns it comes in.
7 in (178 mm) shaft. Cups 2 x 10, 3 x 10 and 4 x 10 mm, each straight, curved up or curved down (Codman 53-1159 to 53-1167). Medline Konig also makes 6 x 12 mm cups (straight and up). The laminectomy set carries one 2 x 10 mm and one 4 x 10 mm cup in each of straight, up-bite and down-bite (Ferris Smith or Sterling).
