Flexible Intramedullary Reamer
Also called flexible reamer
A reamer on a flexible shaft for preparing a medullary canal. In some systems a front-cutting reamer head fits on a flexible reamer shaft; Nexel uses solid flexible reamers followed by cannulated ones.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
In Coonrad/Morrey total elbow it is optional: if the ulnar canal is small, flexible reamers can prepare it. Nexel prepares the ulna with flexible reamers, solid then cannulated, to a depth mark. In tibial nailing the canal is reamed in half-millimeter steps.
