A modular self-retaining neurosurgical and microsurgical retractor. A primary bar attaches to the skull clamp; secondary bars attach to the primary bar; flexible (FLEXBAR) long and short retractor arms attach to the bars and hold tapered retractor blades. A handrest, pattie tray and instrument holders can be added.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Holds brain retractor blades (brain spoons) hands-free in cranial surgery, for example when exposing the optic nerves and chiasm for a transcranial pituitary approach. Many set-ups are possible by combining parts, giving retraction in several planes.

Kit 50-1500 (Universal Retractor and Handrest Kit) includes 2 primary bars (6 in / 152 mm, 50-1507), 4 secondary bars (12 in / 305 mm, 50-1508), 4 long retractor arms (9 1/2 in / 241 mm, 50-1509), tapered blades 9 in (229 mm) long in widths from 1.6 to 6 mm at the tip (50-1530 to 50-1534), handrest (50-1512) and pattie tray (50-1513). Also short retractor arm 6 1/2 in (165 mm, 50-1511), floating secondary bar (50-1516), Maxi-Vise adapter (50-1515, doubles the arm holding diameter from 4 to 8 mm), instrument holders and a 4-compartment case (50-1514).
