The body of the MaXcess III split-blade retractor. Blades of the needed length are loaded and held with set screws. Squeezing the handles spreads the blades up and down; knobs on the sides open them front to back. The center blade has a post for the NeuroVision stimulation clip, and blade rotation locks sit on the left and right arms.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
XLIF. Blade length is read from the depth marks on the dilators. The Access Driver goes over the third (blue) dilator with the handles pointing posterior, is checked on AP fluoroscopy to be parallel with the disc space, is fixed to the bedrail with the articulating arm, and is opened about three clicks by squeezing the handles, then turning the side knobs forward. A bifurcated light cable is passed about halfway down the left and right blades. It is removed at closure.
Sizes & variants
