Mueller Retractor

Also called Long Prong Mueller Retractor, Short Prong Mueller Retractor

Official 1 photo

A hip retractor supplied in long-prong and short-prong versions in the DART retractor tray, alongside Hohmann and Cobra retractors.

Primary uses

What this instrument is on the table to do.

Direct anterior hip: a short-prong Mueller sits on the back rim of the acetabulum for reaming, held by the assistant or with weights. For the femur, a Mueller goes medial to expose the calcar, and the long-prong Mueller goes behind the top of the greater trochanter (in front of the gluteus medius) and is levered while the bone hook lifts the femur for broaching.

Sizes & variants

Stryker Long Prong Mueller 1440-2020 and Short Prong Mueller 1440-2021 (one each in Direct Anterior Retractor Tray 7000-5524).
