A narrow ear elevator: a long thin shaft ends in a slightly curved, flat blade with a rounded blunt tip, on a flat handle. The blade is only a few millimetres wide (1.5 to 4 mm), and the instrument is about 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 in long.
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Removes periosteum from bone in ear surgery. In tympanoplasty the surgeon uses a narrow Shambaugh elevator (or a duckbill elevator) to separate the temporalis fascia from the muscle when harvesting the graft.
