Sternal Retractor
Also called Sternal Spreader, Chest Spreader
Self-retaining chest spreader with two blades on arms set on a toothed crossbar. Turning the crank walks one arm along the bar to spread the blades, and the teeth hold it open.

Spreads the cut edges of the sternum after a median sternotomy to expose the heart and great vessels.

Made in adult, pediatric and neonatal sizes. Neonatal models spread about 36 mm with 25 mm arms; pediatric models spread up to about 80 mm. Some have removable blades in more than one depth.
