Valve Holder Handle
Also called holder handle, instrument handle
A long handle that threads or snaps into the plastic holder pre-mounted on a heart valve. Edwards handles have malleable shafts: 1111 stainless steel 7.0 in, 1117 nitinol 9.1 in, 1173 nitinol 11.3 in (reusable), and 1126 stainless steel 11.5 in (single use, sterile). Abbott Masters handles come flexible (905-HH) or rigid (905-RHH, mitral 905-MHH).
Primary uses
What this instrument is on the table to do.
Attached to the valve holder while the valve is still in its jar or tray, then used to lift the valve out, swirl it in the rinse basins (tissue valves), align it and lower it into the annulus. On a Masters mechanical valve the handle also turns the holder/rotator to rotate the valve in place.
