What it means
A small, often wheeled or portable bed with low sides used for newborns in the hospital and at home. In the hospital, babies are moved between rooms in the bassinet rather than carried in the arms through hallways, for safety and security.
For the nurse
Teach safe sleep: place the baby on the back, alone, on a firm, flat mattress with a fitted sheet, with no pillows, blankets, bumpers or toys, in the parents' room but not in their bed.
