Where the questions come from

No certification exam is written from a single book.

NBSTSA CST
NBSTSA publishes the list of references it writes the CST questions from. It is not one book.
NCCT TS-C
NCCT builds the TS-C exam from a national study of what surgical techs actually do on the job, not from a textbook.
HSPA CRCST
HSPA names the references it used to create the CRCST exam: a manual and two sets of national standards.
CBSPD CSPDT
CBSPD builds the CSPDT exam from a job analysis of working technicians and the federal standards they follow (OSHA, FDA, CDC, EPA). It says plainly that no book is the only way in.
NBSTSA CSFA
NBSTSA publishes the list of references it writes the CSFA questions from. It is not one book.

A book teaches you. It can't test you.

What you needYour bookThis practice test
Explains the material
Asks you questions at your level—
Shows where you'd score today—
Finds the areas you're weak in—
Brings back what you missed—
Times you like the real exam—

Keep your book and read it. Then find out if it stuck, before the exam does.

Behind the button

What happens when you press Practice

It looks simple because the work happens behind it. Every set is built for you, from everything you have answered so far.

  • It finds your level

Questions are aimed so you get about 3 in 4 right. Hard enough that you learn, easy enough that you keep going. As you get better, the questions get harder.

  • Every question knows how hard it is

Each question's difficulty comes from how every student answered it the first time, and it keeps updating. Nobody guesses which questions are hard. The answers show it.

  • Your misses come back when you're ready

Miss one and it returns later, once you've had time to learn it. No separate "missed questions" list to manage.

  • It leans on your weak areas

Every answer is scored by area of the exam. An area under the pass mark gets more of your practice until it catches up.

  • It knows which instruments you mix up

Pick the Metzenbaum when it was the Mayo, and those two start showing up as each other's wrong answers until you can tell them apart.

  • The exam is built like the real one

The same length and clock as the real exam, dealt by area in the same shares as the official outline. Skip, flag, go back and change an answer, then hand it in.

  • One score, and what to do next

Your score is your last 100 answers against the exam’s pass mark. Under it, one sentence tells you what to work on next, and why.

Questions

Before you start

What is CSTSetup?

A study site and apps for surgical techs and students, made by surgical techs. It has the real back table for 259 procedures, 2,882 instruments with photos, and practice for the CST, TS-C, CRCST, CSPDT and CSFA. Programs use it to teach and students use it to study. You can start free, and Pro opens all of it.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from your dashboard, and you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out. No email, no phone call, no retention script.

Does it work on my phone?

One account covers the website and the apps. Study on the bus, review on the unit, and your progress is the same everywhere. It lives on the account, not the device.

I haven't set an exam date yet.

You don't need one. Without a date the daily lesson is 10 questions built from what you are weakest on. Set a date later and it grows on its own as the date gets closer.

What happens to my progress if I stop paying?

Nothing is deleted. Your streak, your history and everything you have mastered are still there if you come back, and the free tier keeps working.

Is this enough on its own?

For the setups and instruments, yes: 259 trays and 2,882 instruments, tested until you are quick with them. For the exam it is practice, written to the exam's official outline, with full timed exams. It does not replace your program's textbook.
