What it means
A common IV solution. In the bag it has about the same concentration as blood (isotonic), but the body quickly uses the glucose, which leaves free water that moves into the cells, so it acts as a hypotonic fluid. It gives some calories and is used to mix many IV drugs and to replace free water.
