What it means
The standard reference used in the United States, and in many other countries, to diagnose mental health conditions. For each disorder it lists the signs and symptoms, how long they must last and what must be ruled out. The current edition is the DSM-5-TR (2022).
For the nurse
The provider makes the DSM diagnosis; the nurse uses it to plan care and writes nursing problems based on how the client responds.
