What it means
A chemical sterilant for items such as some plastics, scopes and electronics that cannot go through a steam autoclave. It kills all microbes, including spores, but the cycle is long, and items need hours of aeration afterward to remove leftover gas. The gas is toxic, flammable and can cause cancer, so exposure is monitored.
For the nurse
Do not open or use an item until its full aeration time is complete. Check the package's sterilization indicator before use.
