What it means
The largest lobe of the brain. It holds the area that starts voluntary movement and, usually on the left side, the area that forms spoken words. Damage from a stroke or head injury can change personality, judgment and self-control, cause weakness on the opposite side of the body and make it hard to speak (expressive aphasia).
For the nurse
After a frontal lobe injury, give short, simple instructions, keep the room safe and watch for impulsive actions such as climbing out of bed.
