What it means
A change in the cervix found on pelvic exam, usually around 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy, as blood flow increases. It is named after William Goodell, an American gynecologist. It is a probable sign of pregnancy, not a positive one, because other conditions can soften the cervix too.
