Word parts

What it means

An interprofessional team may include nurses, physicians, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, social workers, case managers and others, each bringing their own skills. Interprofessional collaboration means they share information, set goals together and respect each other's roles, which improves safety and results for clients.

For the nurse

Know who to call for what: a dietitian for nutrition, a pharmacist for drug questions, a social worker or case manager for discharge needs. Speak up in team rounds with clear, organized information, for example in SBAR form.
