What it means
Many organs are divided into lobes. The lungs have five lobes: three on the right and two on the left. Each half of the brain has four lobes: frontal (planning, movement, personality), parietal (touch and position), temporal (hearing, memory, language) and occipital (vision). The liver and thyroid also have lobes, and the earlobe is the soft lower part of the ear.
For the nurse
Lung sounds are heard over each lobe in turn, front and back. Pneumonia confined to one lobe is called lobar pneumonia.
