What it means
A flat, rectangular tray on a single post that slides over the operating table. The scrub person keeps the instruments and supplies needed right now on it, within easy reach, and the rest on the back table. It is draped as part of the sterile field. It is named after the Mayo Clinic, founded by the Mayo family.
For the nurse
Only the top of the draped stand is sterile. The stand must not be moved against the patient's body.
