What it means
Small pearl-like cysts formed when skin flakes are trapped in tiny pockets near the surface. About half of newborns have them, and they go away on their own within a few weeks. Adults can get them too, often around the eyes.
For the nurse
Reassure parents that milia are harmless. Teach them not to squeeze or scrub the bumps, and to wash the baby's face gently with water.
