mmol

Millimole: a unit for an amount of a substance, often given per liter of blood (mmol/L) in lab results.

MIL-ih-mohl abbreviation

What it means

One-thousandth of a mole, the international (SI) unit for counting amounts of a substance. Most countries outside the United States report lab results in mmol/L; US labs often use mg/dL or mEq/L, and this dictionary gives SI values in brackets. For sodium and potassium the numbers in mmol/L and mEq/L are the same; for glucose they are not (100 mg/dL is about 5.6 mmol/L).
