What it means
The occipital bone forms the back and base of the skull, and the occipital lobe, at the back of the brain, handles vision. The occiput is the back of the head itself.
For the nurse
The back of the head is a common place for pressure injuries in infants and in clients lying on their backs for a long time, so check it when you check the skin.
